Approximation to the real distribution of Fulvifomes sanjanii (Hymenochaetaceae, Basidiomycota) in Cuba

Abstract

Fulvifomes sanjanii is considered an almost threatened species in Cuba, although knowledge of its distribution is limited to few localities where it has been collected. Identifying the distribution of this species would provide a better understanding of its current conservation status and would allow planning possible conservation actions in sectors of interest. In the present work, the approximate area of ​​real distribution of F. sanjanii in Cuba is estimated and the representativeness of this distribution in the protected areas of the archipelago is evaluated. For this, the distribution modeling of this species was carried out using the records of presence and environmental variables. The potential distribution model was restricted, eliminating the unsuitable areas for the presence of this species and the final result was superimposed with the protected areas of Cuba. The approximate area of ​​the real distribution of F. sanjanii in Cuba is fragmented throughout the archipelago and occupies 4045.19 km2. The presence of inappropriate factors for the occurrence of this species represents a high risk for its conservation, which restricted the potential distribution model by 25.5%. On the other hand, only 30.4% of the approximate area of real distribution of F. sanjanii was found in the archipielago.
