Reconsideración del estatus específico de Accipiter striatus fringilloides (Aves: Accipitridae) basada en un marco integrativo de delimitación de especies

Resumen

El complejo Accipiter striatus comprende varias subespecies distribuidas en el hemisferio occidental, cuyo estatus taxonómico ha sido objeto de debate. La forma cubana A. s. fringilloides ha sido tratada como especie y luego como subespecie, pese a presentar rasgos fenotípicos y genéticos distintivos. Con un enfoque de taxonomía integrativa, comparamos su morfología, plumaje y vocalizaciones con otras poblaciones continentales e insulares. Analizamos material de museos, literatura histórica y 60 grabaciones de tres parejas reproductivas cubanas mediante espectrogramas. Los resultados muestran un conjunto estable de rasgos diagnósticos: diferencias en tamaño, patrón ventral, transición del plumaje juvenil y un sistema vocal claramente divergente, con cadencia más lenta, menos sílabas por frase y marcada modulación intra-silábica, además de un dimorfismo sexual vocal no descrito en otras subespecies. La evidencia combinada apoya que A. s. fringilloides constituye una unidad evolutiva independiente y justifica reconsiderar su reconocimiento como especie válida, con implicaciones directas para su conservación.
