New additions to the herpetofauna of the Loma de Cunagua Wildlife Refuge, Ciego de Ávila, Cuba

Abstract
Terrestrial amphibians and reptiles are important components in the Protected Area “Loma de Cunagua Wildlife Refuge,” given their endemism. We collected herpetofaunal geographical distribution data in the area between May, 2016 and April, 2017, while conducting research about spatial variations of diurnal lizard communities. We found seven species of reptiles and one of amphibian not registered, thus, numbers of these groups in the area reach 25 and 10, respectively. All of the newly recorded species were found in semideciduos forest with different conservation degree. The family Gekkonidae was the best represented with two species; while the families Amphisbaenidae, Tropidophiidae, Typhlopidae, Colubridae, Diploglossidae, and Bufonidae presented a single species. Of the total of taxa, six are endemic of Cuba and it is still ignored if exists any other endemic at subespecific level. Because of the generality of the new records occurred in a haphazard manner, it is very likely that conducting standardized searches, the number of species in the area increases.
