Abstract
The correct selection of the arboreal species to use in the urban means is in function of the frequency of events meteorological ends, the potential interferences of the trees with the air technical nets and the ecological conditions of the plantation place. With the aim of achieving this correct selection in the urban trees of Cuba, the available bibliographic sources on the subject and the author's observations were analyzed to arrive at a proposal for species. One hundred and ninety three species are proposed, of which 89 are autochthonous including 18 endemics and 104 exotic, including alone four of aggressiveness proven but wide use in Cuba. The species were presented organized in tables for the places of more complexity such as: 1) tree-lined of streets, with 84 species that include 43 autochthonous, 66 trees of scarce size and 18 bushes; 2) spaces for parking, with 26 species of trees that inclyen 16 autochthonous; 3) public squares, with 51 species of big trees and 15 of palms, including 31 autochthonous species; 4) yards and other private spaces of the urban means, with 30 species of fruit-bearing of moderate size, and 5) coastal spaces urbanized, with 60 species, of them 39 autochthonous, 30 trees, 16 bushes and 14 palms. For each species, information is offered on the botanical family, the scientific and common names, the morphological tipology, the origin and the resistance to the wind.
